To Bog Monster

It was just too long to put in the chapter:

Bog monster: It's always a shock to get the first critique on a fic, but it's helpful stuff that any sort of
writer needs. I've had reservations with this story from the start and thought for a while if I should just
take it down, edit it, and re-post it, but knowing myself, I decided against it (the story would never reappear again).
Perhaps this conversation would be better suited to a private email, but since you don't have an account,
there's no other way to communicate with you. A small point, as compared to the rest of this ...dissertation, would be
that yes, I do know the characters are out of character. It bothers the hell out of me. It's really due to the
fact that I'm inexperienced writing for an anime genre and that even though I've read the manga and seen the
anime, the effort of trying to combine the best of both worlds really escapes me. There is also that element
I'm trying to introduce (Cheru) and the way people react to her. I think I've gotten somewhat better as I progress, but who knows.
I also think that Ukitake's got to have an abrasive side to him, people that nice don't live/die that long.
I plan on this being my one and only Bleach fanfiction, and to that effect, I've really tried to take a different approach with this story.
I wanted Cheru to be believable as an original character,
and not too over the top with her dramatic history. Apparantly it seems that I haven't done enough with her.
Strangely enough, I did think that I had put more effort into writing in details in the earlier chapters of the
story than the later ones. It seems maybe you want more artful details and not such trivial ones. Or am
I taking this the wrong way? Perhaps I am "telling" you too much of the story instead of "showing" it to you.
I did think though, that this was somewhat unique, that the whole story (nearly) is mostly in Cheru's point of
view. Although there is the "omnipotent narrarator," their view is colored by Cheru's, and even though there
are a plethora of very frank and to-the-point sentences that detract from the aspect of pure description, the reader would know
that they are coming from the character themself and account for that difference. Not only did I want to create
this effect, but I also wanted to force a little work out of the reader. You could argue that I am setting things up
to be much too transparent, but I would argue that I am leaving some things out for the reader to imagine and hypothesize
about (something I love doing so much being an avid fanfic reader and writer). I actually think Bog Monster (and I would
like to see a sample, haha), that you
have a better ability to write than I do. I'm much too used to getting my way around here, and your example (no matter
how rushed or paltry you may have thought it was) did ring somewhat truer than a few of the things I wrote down. But hey,
can you blame a girl for trying? I'm hoping you stick around for the whole thing even though you might get disenchanted
on the way, a few more pointers really would help.

In order to be more orderly...or just to use this as an excuse to waste more time and boost my low self-esteem, I have made this LJ to host all my fanart and fanfiction. I sometimes (in my frequent drunken stupors) call "fanart", "Fart"...it's just not as funny when you change "fanfiction" to "Fiction".

Expect nothing, for I am a champion at that.
But if you dislike my liking for good-humored poking fun at slash, it's time for you to leave...for I am liable to make fun of a lot of stuff other than that as well. Slash is not something I love, it's just well...funny, and sometimes sweet--sometimes.

    So there you go.
